This spectacular 80-foot waterfall was a proving ground for warriors during the Hawaiian era who would courageously leap from the top of the falls to show their bravery. Just prior to my departure from the island, someone did jump and was knocked unconscious upon landing in the water; their life was saved by a bystander at the base of the falls.
